Proven Experience

BETA has a demonstrated track record of working with the military and has achieved many industry firsts in the defense space.

Industry Firsts: Crewed Electric VTOL Transition and Military Pilot Flights

BETA, in partnership with the U.S. Air Force, completed the first-ever crewed transition flight of an electric aircraft — from vertical takeoff to wing-borne cruise and vertical landing — demonstrating the real-world performance and stability of electric VTOL across all phases of flight. In another industry first, both U.S. Army and Air Force pilots flew BETA’s fixed-wing electric aircraft, demonstrating military confidence in the ALIA platform.

Hybrid-Electric Propulsion Backed by the U.S. Army

With Army support, BETA is developing hybrid propulsion using trusted combustion systems and an internally-developed, high-reliability generator. BETA has already flown a working prototype, demonstrating a solution for longer-range, flexible missions.

Field-Proven Performance and Reliability in Five U.S. Air Force Deployments

BETA’s aircraft has deployed five times, including a sustained test campaign with the 413th Flight Test Squadron at Duke Field. The effort culminated in a full-scale Agile Combat Employment exercise, validating ALIA’s role in closing intra-theater logistics gaps with high-reliability, high-cadence operations.

Why It’s Important
  • Evaluated the value of using an electric aircraft to support distributed forces
  • Demonstrated time savings, reduced costs and increased flexibility when
    compared to legacy platforms
  • Intra-island: significantly faster than surface movement
  • Inter-island: demonstrated capability to move cargo inside the island chain
